Only Poets Read Poetry

January 13th, 2010 by Mark William Jackson.

Only poets read poetry,
as only singers sing the song,
only Adam chose the apple,
poor Eve was dragged along.
The clouds can rain their poison
while my child plays ring-a-rose,
the crosswords are getting harder
or I’m dumber than I suppose.
Train timetables confuse me,
and my teachers were all wrong,
only poets read poetry,
only singers sing the songs.

ROFL..that’s one of the best piece of ‘wit in verse’ I have read for a long time.
DO add humour, wit , as a tag to this one !!

    Awesome

Sweet and simple! Something like Ogden Nash’s poems, always liked the genre!

  3. Thank you Rahul and Dragonknight for your kind words.

Hoping to see more of your works! It is a good way to beat the Sydney heat :)

btw loved the “Poetry should punch into your head,
or break out like your drunken father” in ur bio :)
Also, on a serious note, this poetic blogging website actually agrees to your view that the poetry is a dying art.

  6. Thanks Dragonknight, I will certainly post some more poems over the next few days. I fear that poetry will continue to sink into its own obscurity if we don’t steer it into a more accessible direction. Sites such as your’s are essential if poetry has any hope of a resurgence in popularity.

Its our site as much as it is others who love to write / read poetry. Feel free to spread the word about this one if you like the idea. At no point will this service be made chargeable. This will remain as free as the creativity of its users!!!

only poets read poetry is certainly not true (alteast that’s what I beleive :) ) ..nice refreshing humour

  9. I hope it’s not true, but it is certainly threatening. On my site at http://markwilliamjackson.com this statement has been discussed at great length, trying to analyse the barriers to greater readability.
