Crimes of the Art

January 16th, 2010 by Mark William Jackson.

What crime is committed

by stealing a cup from a river?

Surely no one would notice

a mighty river missing a cup,

all the water merely wasting

into the ocean.

What crime to have stopped

a cup of water

from its flow.

Or to throw

a cage over a crow

about to take flight,

what harm would be caused

to the murder

if only one

was held back?

Or through the crack

to let time fall slowly

until a life has passed

like sands through the hourglass.

Who would notice one life

wasted in artificial lightning?

nice one..I believe every life is important in it’s own way!!

  2. hindikavi says:

had to read twice..to get what exactly you are trying to convey..I guess it’s depecting the dejection..and the futility of life..right??

  3. Hindikavi; your interpretation is good, the poem is asking the reader if they find it criminal to allow a life to waste away in mediocrity.
